Steps

How to make Breadcrumbs. With a few pantry ingredients and your oven, you’ll have better-than-store-bought crumbs in no time—customisable for any dish.

    Ingredients

    1. 1

      4–6 slices stale bread

    2. 2

      ½ tsp salt

    3. 3

½ tsp garlic powder or onion powder (optional)

    4. 4

1 tsp dried herbs (oregano, basil, thyme, or parsley) (optional)

    5. 5

      1–2 tbsp olive oil

    Method

    1. 1

Preheat your oven to 150°C fan forced (170°C). Line an oven tray with baking paper.

    2. 2

For extra taste, mix in optional seasonings and olive oil. Toss lightly and bake for 15-20 minutes.

    3. 3

Arrange bread cubes in a single layer on the tray. Bake for 15–20 minutes, turning halfway, until dry and crisp but not browned. Allow the bread to cool completely.

    4. 4

In a food processor or blender pulse to your desired consistency.

    Tips

    1. 1

Try seasoned crumbs with Italian herbs and cheese, or gluten-free crumbs with GF bread.

    2. 2

If you are using fresh bread, you will need to cook for an extra 5-10 minutes.

    3. 3

If you do not have a food processor you can use a rolling pin. Place the cooked bread in a sealed bag and crush until fine.

    ...And that's it, enjoy!

    What you'll need

    You will need:

    • Oven tray lined with baking paper

    • Food processor or rolling pin

    • Knife

    • Chopping board

    • Container to store
