Portokalopita (Orange Filo Pastry Cake)

Portokalopita — literally “orange pie” — is a traditional Greek cake from Crete made with torn filo pastry, tangy yoghurt, and sun-ripened oranges. Don’t let the name fool you: this is a moist, pudding-like cake baked to golden perfection and soaked in a fragrant orange and cinnamon syrup. It's a textural marvel — light, chewy, and syrupy all at once — and the best part? The filo must be dry and scrunched, so there’s no need to handle it delicately.
