Bourbon is a type of whiskey that is primarily made in the United States, specifically in Kentucky. It is made from a mash bill of at least 51% corn, along with other grains such as rye, wheat, or barley, and is aged in new, charred oak barrels for at least two years.
Bourbon has a rich and complex flavour profile, with notes of caramel, vanilla, and oak. The taste can vary depending on the specific mash bill and aging process used, with some bourbons being spicier and more robust, while others are smoother and more mellow.
To be considered bourbon, the whiskey must meet certain legal requirements, including being made in the United States, being made from at least 51% corn, and being aged in new, charred oak barrels. It cannot contain any added flavours or coloring, and must be bottled at a minimum of 80 proof.
